Finding Names

Posted by Derek Chamberlain on Monday, March 26, 2012, In : On The Web

If you are anything like me, you already have lists of possible character names that you are constantly adding to. My own list has over 3,000 character, place, and species names on it already, but I’m always looking for more. I recently came across several sites that are all about names. They provide lists or generators of species, series, or period specific first and/or last names. A great resource for those of us who write Speculative Fiction.

The State of Publishing

Posted by Derek Chamberlain on Thursday, March 8, 2012, In : On The Web
This is a great blog post by Sarah Hoyt on the state of the publishing industry today, and what we can do.

There is hope, if we just close our eyes for a moment and realise that we're not chained to the back of the van.
[This comment will make sense once you've read the blog.]

Happy writing,

Enjoy, I did.

The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) has announced the nominees for the 2011 Nebula Awards. Click through here to see who made the list.
If you're interested in writing in the genre, these are the publishers and publications to be submitting to. Not to say that small press publications don't get noticed, but the big names tend to attract a lot of attention, that's why they're the big names.

Happy Writing

For today’s ‘On The Web’ I’m bringing you three new sites.

www.beneath-ceaseless-skies.com
An online speculative-fiction magazine that is well-worth reading, and perhaps even submitting to.

http://libbycuskelly.com/
Libby Cuskelly, the author of this blog, is an anthropologist and a fantasy author. She has a very interesting post on world-building from an anthropological standpoint, the first in a series of ten that I am looking forward to reading.
