DJ Chamberlain is a writer and an ESL teacher. He has been working for almost two decades as a part time freelance writer and editor. Then, in August 2014, he returned to his roots and published Gladiator, a sword and sorcery novella. Since then he has published five more books (and unpublished one), all speculative fiction.
Speculative fiction is a large field that encompasses fantasy, science fiction, and horror. Many people would prefer to see these as entirely separate not only from mainstream literature, but from each other.
All of these genres have at least one thing in common, they all deal with the fantastic; with things that are not part of our presently understood reality. They ask the question, 'What if?' about reality, the past, and the future.
They are all rooted in the present and in the commonly understood history and sociology of humanity. That rooting is what allows the greatest works of speculative fiction to make the impact that they do, for without that grounding, how could we understand the questions that they ask?
This site is dedicated not just to speculative fiction and the craft of writing, but also to those aspects of human history and culture that writers of speculative fiction use to inform, illuminate, and ground their work.
